Mere hours after the Dark Souls Remastered credits had rolled over the screen, tired but also full of wonder, I jumped into the even more mystifying world of Dark Souls 2. I knew that it was considered the worst in the series, and I hate the awful death mechanic in DS2 as much as anyone, but in hindsight I absolutely adore the world of Drangleic. Someone on Reddit, described this game as akin to a fever dream, and I hace to agree. It has a certain faded, surreal fairytale vibe to it too, as if you were to observe it through a foggy tavern window, nursing a pint of beer and feeling the warmth from the fire spread through you. There’s danger in the world, but also sort of a comfort in knowing that everyone is as lost as you are, just trying to find their own path through the world.
The concept for my DS2 character was fairly simple - a thief with a rough edge to her, gradually finding inner peace and a sense of nobility as she experiences the horrors and wonders the world has to offer. As an amateur fencer I do take offence by the way the game lets you swing the rapier, her main choice of weapon, around using both hands, but apart from that I enjoyed this uncomplicated build.
